How to Use Image Generator With Batch Background Remover

BeFunky's Batch Background Remover lets you remove backgrounds from multiple images at once and replace them with custom backgrounds across your batch. With Image Generator, you can create AI-generated background images directly within Batch Background Remover and apply them to your images without leaving your workflow.

Use this workflow to create custom backgrounds for product photos, portraits, social media images, and other batch projects, including studio backdrops, outdoor scenes, seasonal settings, and other custom environments.

Batch Background Remover is available with a BeFunky Pro subscription. View BeFunky subscription options.

Open Batch Background Remover

Step 1: Open the Photo Editor and select Batch.

Step 2: Select Background Remover from the Batch menu.

Step 3: Select Add Images and add the images you want to process.

You can add images from:

  • Computer: Add images stored on your computer.
  • Stock Images: Search BeFunky's available stock images and add them to your batch.
  • Image Generator: Create a new AI-generated image to add to your batch, or open Image Generations to add an image you've created previously.
  • Drag and Drop: Drag and drop image files directly onto the canvas.

Each image added to Batch Background Remover is automatically processed to remove its background and uses 1 credit per image.

Important Note: Creating a new image with Image Generator uses 5 credits. If you add that image to Batch Background Remover, an additional 1 credit is used to remove its background. Adding an existing image from Image Generations does not use new Image Generator credits, but it will still use 1 credit when processed by Batch Background Remover.

Open Image Generator From Batch Background Remover

Once the backgrounds have been removed, you can create a custom replacement background for your batch.

Step 4: Select Change Background.

Step 5: Select Image, then choose Select Background.

Step 6: Select Image Generator.

Image Generator will open so you can create a custom background image to use behind the subjects in your batch.

Create an AI-Generated Background

Step 7: Enter a prompt describing the background you want to create. Your prompt can contain up to 1,000 characters.

Focus your prompt on the environment or setting you want behind your subjects. Include details such as:

  • Location or setting
  • Colors
  • Lighting
  • Time of day
  • Mood or atmosphere
  • Visual or photographic style

Example Prompt:

A bright modern photography studio with a warm beige seamless backdrop, soft diffused lighting, subtle floor shadows, neutral colors, and a clean, photorealistic look.

Pro Tip: Describe the background you want to create rather than describing the subjects in your batch. This helps Image Generator focus on creating the environment that will appear behind them.

Step 8: Choose an Aspect ratio that best matches the shape and composition of the images in your batch.

Step 9: Select Generate. Each newly generated image uses 5 credits.

Your new background will appear in the preview and will automatically be saved under Image Generations in your Image Library.

Important Note: A rejected or unsafe prompt does not create or save an image.

Step 10: Select Use this Image.

You'll return to the Select Background screen with your generated image added to the available background options. Select the generated image to apply it as the replacement background for your batch.

Create Additional Background Options

To create another background, select Image Generator again. Revise your prompt, change the Aspect ratio, or adjust Variation, then select Generate.

Pro Tip: Make all intended changes to your prompt, aspect ratio, and variation before selecting Generate. Each newly generated background uses 5 credits. Generating a separate image after each adjustment will use additional credits.

View and Use Previous Image Generations

You can also use backgrounds or other images you've already created with Image Generator.

Select Image Generator, then open Image Generations to view your previous generations.

To use a single image, select the image and choose Use this Image. You'll return to the Select Background screen with the image added to your available background options.

To add multiple generated images, select Select, choose the images you want to add, then select Use [number] Images. The number shown on the button will update based on how many images you've selected.

Select an image again to deselect it, or choose Cancel Select to clear the selection.

Important Note: Viewing, selecting, or reusing an existing image from Image Generations does not use additional Image Generator credits. Credits are only used when you select Generate and a new image is created.

Customize the Background for an Individual Image

If one image in the batch needs a different background or additional adjustments, you can customize it separately.

Step 1: Hover over the image you want to customize and select Customize.

Step 2: Adjust the image as needed. You can:

  • Refine the background selection to remove unwanted areas or restore missing parts.
  • Choose a different background color or image.
  • Open Image Generator, then select Image Generations to add a previously generated background that isn't already available. Reusing an existing generation does not use additional Image Generator credits.
  • Open Image Generator to create a new custom background. Each newly generated background uses 5 credits.
  • Add and adjust a drop shadow.

Step 3: Select Apply.

Important Note: Once an image is customized, it will not automatically receive future background changes applied to the rest of the batch.

How Credits Work With Image Generator and Batch Background Remover

Image Generator and Batch Background Remover use credits separately.

  • Batch Background Remover: Uses 1 credit per image each time an image is processed to remove its background.
  • Image Generator: Uses 5 credits each time a new image or replacement background is generated.
  • Existing Image Generations: Viewing, selecting, or reusing an image you've already generated does not use additional Image Generator credits.

If you create a new image with Image Generator and add it to Batch Background Remover, both actions use credits: 5 credits to generate the image and 1 additional credit when its background is removed.

Important Note: A background created with Image Generator and applied as a replacement background is not processed as another image in the batch. The 1-credit Batch Background Remover charge applies to the images whose original backgrounds are being removed.

For more information about credit usage, see How Credits Work in BeFunky Pro.
