Why Isn’t My Font Working?

BeFunky comes with a variety of built-in fonts, but you can also import additional ones—either from Google Fonts or by uploading font files saved on your device. If your custom font isn't working as expected, there are a few things that might be causing the issue.

Font Compatibility

While most custom or third-party fonts can be easily added to your device, not all of them are compatible with BeFunky. That’s because font files can be created using a range of formatting and structures—there's no single universal standard.

If the internal structure of a font file doesn’t align with what the app can recognize, it may not load correctly. This can happen even if the font works fine in other programs.

Try locating and uploading a font style similar to the one you are working with.

If a font isn’t working after upload, double-check that it's in .TTF or .OTF format and that it's not corrupted. Re-downloading the font from a trusted source can often resolve the issue.

Font Style Variations

Fonts often come in multiple styles, like bold, italic, outline, or weight. Some designers bundle all of these into one font family, while others separate them into individual files. These variations can sometimes conflict with each other, especially if the font files have similar names or internal identifiers

To avoid conflicts, try installing only the most basic version of the font first. You can use BeFunky’s Text Tool to apply styles like bold, italic, and outline, instead of uploading every variation of the font.

Older Fonts

We’ve had to retire several built-in fonts due to recent changes in licensing agreements. These updates were necessary to ensure that all fonts included in BeFunky comply with current usage rights and distribution policies.

If you notice that a font you previously used is no longer available, this is likely the reason. We understand this can be frustrating, and we're always working to offer a fresh and diverse selection of fonts that are fully licensed and safe to use in your projects.

You can also upload additional fonts using the Font Manager to find a similar alternative that fits your design needs.
