Smart Templates make designing effortless by taking the guesswork out of where to start. Each one comes preloaded with professional effects like background removal and artistic styling—just drop in your portrait or pet photo and watch it instantly transform. You’ll have a polished, consistent design in seconds, and from there, it’s easy to customize the layout, text, and background to create a look that’s uniquely yours. The Smart Templates collection can be located in the Graphic Designer.

Step 1: In the Graphic Designer, go to the Smart Templates collection.
Step 2: Browse the templates to find one you’d like to use. Select 'Use This Template' to start designing, or click the X in the upper-right corner to exit and return to the template collection.
Step 3: Add your image to the template. These portrait options work best for photos of people or pets that feature a clear, close-up view of the subject. You have several ways to replace the placeholder image with your own:
Click the placeholder image in the template, then navigate your computer files to locate and open your image.
Click and drag an image from your desktop directly onto the placeholder image.
Use the Image Manager to select an image from Stock Images, your Image Library, or your computer.
Click and drag an image from the Image Library to replace the placeholder.
Pro Tip: If you use a non-portrait image (such as a landscape), the template may not produce the desired effect, as the automatically applied styling may not correctly detect the subject. To check if your image works well with Smart Templates, try using the automatic Background Remover to see if the subject is clearly defined.
Step 4: Continue customizing your template by adjusting your image and layers. You can edit the text, customize the graphics, or resize your template as needed.
Pro Tip: If a layer isn’t editable, check the Layers & Groups tab to ensure it’s not locked. Unlock the layer to make edits as needed.
Step 5: Click Apply to save your changes.
Step 6: Keep editing and adding creative touches to your design. When you’re finished, be sure to save your project!
