Soften Your Portraits with Soften Tool

The softened look is essential for creating romantic, dreamlike photography, and typically involves the use of a soft focus camera lens while shooting. By slightly blurring some of the details and giving the image an ethereal glow, the soft focus effect creates pure magic. To recreate this effect in our Editing tools, try using our Soften tool.

Step 1: Open your image in the Photo Editor. In your left sidebar, click the Edit menu and navigate to the Soften Tool

Step 2:
When you select Soften, the effect will automatically populate on your image. There you’ll have the option to adjust Softness and Lightness using the adjustment sliders.

Step 3: Increasing the Softness slider will add blur to the mid-tones in your image, making them appear softer. Increasing the Lightness slider will add more highlights to light areas of the image, which creates the soft glow effect without washing out your subject. Experiment with using both of these sliders until you get the results you’re looking for.

Step 4:
If you’d only like to add the effect to certain areas of your image, click on the Select menu in the Soften tool. You’ll be able to remove the effect selectively using the brush tool. Use the corresponding sliders to adjust Brush Size, Hardness, and Strength. Use the Select tool to remove parts you don't want the effect on.

Step 5: Click Apply to save your changes. Continue adding to and editing your creation. If you're done, be sure to save your project!
