Bring Photos to Life With Color Restore

Color Restore is a tool in the Photo Editor designed to bring black-and-white and faded photos back to life by adding natural, balanced color while preserving the original image’s quality and detail. Color Restore focuses purely on colorization, leaving the photo’s original structure, texture, tonal depth, and authenticity intact. This makes Color Restore especially useful for high-resolution images that already have strong detail and clarity, but need their color restored.

Step 1: Open your photo in BeFunky’s Photo Editor and select Restore Color, located under Color Enhancements of the Edits tab.

Step 2: From the Adjust tab, adjust the Variation slider to explore different versions of the generated result.

Step 3: Preserve Luminosity will preserve the contrast and detail of the original image. Check the box to enable it. Uncheck the box next to Preserve Luminosity to turn this feature off.

Step 4: Previewing the Before and After images is on by default, allowing you to view the original and restored images split-screen.  The original image will be on the left side of the canvas, and the restored image will be on the right side.  Drag the arrow slider on the canvas to adjust how much of each version of your image is visible. 

The Before and After checkbox can be deselected if you do not wish to see this option. Only the restored image will be displayed.  

Step 5 (optional): Use the Select tab to place the tool in Select Mode to selectively apply and remove parts of the effect on the image. 

Step 6:  Click Apply to save your changes. 

Step 7: Continue adding to and editing your creation. If you're done, be sure to save your project!
