Reducing Image Noise

Image Noise is a commonly used term in photography to describe visual distortion. It can appear in your photos as gritty or grainy texture, blotchy colors, speckled pixels of color, and other digital artifacts that weren’t present before you hit the capture button. Whether you decide to manually adjust your settings for more control or opt to try out the AI-powered option, here's how to use Denoise from BeFunky's collection of photo enhancing tools.

This tool is only available for BeFunky Plus subscribers. Upgrade your subscription here!

Step 1: Open your photo in BeFunky’s Photo Editor.

Step 2: Under the Edit menu, click Denoise under the Smoothing section.

Step 3: In the Adjust tab, select the type of Denoise you would like to apply to your image. You can choose between AI or Standard tab.

Step 4: Use the Select tab to place the tool in Select Mode to selectively apply and remove parts of the effect on the image.

AI

This option utilizes Artificial Intelligence to remove the noise from your image.

  • Recover Faces - Select the toggle next to enable this feature. This feature works best with forward-facing human subjects. This option can be applied to bring out the details of faces in the photo.
By default, the Recover Faces toggle is disabled, allowing you to view the image before and after the enhancement.   The toggle can be deselected if you do not wish to utilize this option.
  • Before and After - By default the checkbox will be selected allowing you to view the image before and after applying the edit.   This option is only visible in the AI tab.

The original version will appear on the left of the slider arrow and the enhanced image will appear on the right side.  Select and drag the arrow slider to the left to view more of the enhanced image. Select and drag to the arrow slider right to view more of the original image.

The Before and After checkbox can be deselected if you do not wish to see this option. Only the Denoised image will be displayed.

Standard

Allows you to manually select and adjust the sliders to achieve the amount of denoise you would like to apply to your image.

Adjust and customize the settings for the amount of denoise you would like to apply.

  • Amount: Move the slider to control the intensity of the effect you’re applying.
  • Smoothness: Increasing the Smoothness will make the pixels look smoother, blending the noise with the truer pixels to create a more uniform look.
  • Fine Details: This slider will enhance the depth and contrast so your subjects stand out instead of blending in with the rest of the photo.

Pro Tip: To see your original photo, press the O key on your keyboard and you can really see the difference in color this effect makes in just one click.

Step 7: Click Apply to save your changes.

Step 8: Continue adding to and editing your creation. If you're done, be sure to save your project!
