BeFunky, the result images (effect implied ) come with a DPI (Dots Per Inch) value of 96. This has nothing to do with the image quality, but it's a kind of data stored in the image file, telling the printer how many dots per inch it should print.
There is a workaround for this situation. First, please check if you can override this dpi data from your printer and tell it to still print the image at it a higher dpi value (e.g. 300).
Or you can change the DPI info on the picture. You'll need an image editing software on your computer. If you have one, open the image in the software and go to the resize section. Check if there is some field that you can set the DPI value. The key point here is, if there is an option like "Resample image" you need to disable it. Otherwise the size of the image will change and deform your image.
